Hi Guys,

Had a show the other night and played one song a little too hard. :(

Went home and noticed one of the pickup screws was broken (neck pickup) and the pickup is depressed all the way.

I bought some replacement screws and one side of the pickup is back to normal but the other side is still depressed and when I try to tighten the screw on that side it doesn't seem to "bite" and no effect on the pickup level.

Do I need to take off the entire pickguard to fix the problem?

Does anybody have experience with the problem I am having?

Thanks in advance! Really looking forward to a solution!

Sincerely,

Russell

You'll need to "undress" the instrument and take a peek underneath the pickguard. Likely, the hole in that side of the offending pickup is not quite lining up with the corresponding hole in the pickguard. Fender typically uses a short length of surgical tubing as a screw retainer between the bottom of the pickguard and the top of the pickup bobbin and it's possible that it's what's fouling the reinstallation of a new screw.

Thank you very much. First, I dropped the tuning down to Black Sabbath tuning, then I undressed it.

Now that I can see underneath the pickguard, I don't see any surgical tubing that you mentioned.

The problem is that the screw just isn't biting.

I can send you a photo of it if you like.

Sincerely,

Russell

Perhaps the replacement screw is too short......?
