Hello.

I've heard the CS 56 Strat NOS and I liked the special sound of its pickups.
They are called Custom 50's.
I tried to get a set of them but they are not for sale, so I decided to make them by myself.

I know that the magnets are Alnico 5 but it's not enough. In addition I must know exactly what's the specific type of wire and the output level of each pickup of the three.

So I would be happy if someone who has those pickups inside his guitar could tell me waht are the specification of them.

They also come with some other models of the Custom Shop and I think they may be bit different from one model to another. So I would like to get some recommendation about other successful models with those pickups.

Thanks.

Sure there are some pickups already built with the sound you looking for .

Your hear those pickups on a Custom Shop guitar ?

This do not mean they will sound same on you guitar , not more than an already built pickups .
I'm shure you know that wood , neck ...give the overall tone .
And pickups sound is not only a parts assemble , you may need to know the way Fender do the winding ...

Good look and come back to tell us what you do .

Thanks.
I searched a lot for similar sound but it always was worse than the originals.
I heard the Custon 50's on video samples of some guitars.
They always sounds greart (sometimes different but still great).

youtube.com/watch?v=n6b2KhiUU4U

I don't like the overall spec. of the models of those pickups, and some are too much expensive to me right now, so I want to get the most similar sound of those guitar. I think it's the only way...

I don't trust what I hear on You tube or by computer for choosing PU

Sound is so poor , not like live and what is the amp used ? ...

IMO you waiste your time .

A ready built pickups is too expensive for you ? How can your guy can built a good pickups lots cheaper ?

What is your start model ?

I agree that you can't trust what you hear on the web but if you hear lots of guitar that you already know their realistic sound, you have a reference that you can adopt.
I've made lots of comparisons that way and they're usually right.

I don't have a Strat yet, but I think it's gonna be a American Standard or Deluxe with maple neck and alder body. I can buy 3 AS Strat for the price of the NOS 56 for example...

I can afford a new set of built pickups, but I don't like the sound of the sets on market...
To buy custom pickups is a better idea in my opinion...

IMO Strat NOS' 56 is not same guitar as American standard . I don't talk about pickups.

It is like if I say , I can buy 3 Squier for the price of one American Standard ....Did they will sound as good , works as good as American Standard ? Not IMO

It is not because you put the pickups of the holy grail 1959 Gibson les Paul on new les Paul you'll have the sound of the 1959 les Paul.
You nee the same tone wood too. varnish .....

Same for NOS 56 Stratocaster . And you want to buy a pickup which is not built and you can't ear the sound before ? Good luck .

On all pickup on the market , sure it may have few with the sound you looking for .

Lots of people asking for those .

Strat-Up, go with a set of Fat '50s, they sound really good, and I believe you'll like 'em.

Cheers, G.

+1

They are a very tasty-sounding set -- mellow but with adequate gain to drive an amp. Like Texas Specials but with much of the grittiness dialed back.

Customs 50s use 42 gauge formvar wire and are wound to ~5.9k. All three pickups are the same and the middle pickup typically isn't RWRP. That's about all I know just from experience.

Aaron at Rumpelstiltskin Pickups can wind you a set that will be very close. And it won't cost you an arm and a leg either. You will want his Pre-CBS set wound to 5.9k. He's got a great ear for tone.
