I've noticed than many, if not most, rail type pickups have a radius of curvature on the top of the rails which is much greater than that of the neck/bridge. Why is this? It likely accounts for the "chunkier midrange" some reviews mention. But if I want higher output (as these invariably are) I want it all across the spectrum. I suppose I could file the blades flatter, but imagine the problem of trying to get the filings off the magnets/rails. Is there a technical reason behind this radius thing that I'm not grasping?

Also, the blades present a very small cross section to the strings, maybe half of that of a pole piece on a single coil. Can these be widened by the addition of a thin steel piece placed along side the rail top? Unless there's a reason for the subject of my first question, doing so could "flatten" the average blade height.
