I'm sure this has come up here but I cant find any comments,

I'm considering purchasing the EC midboost kit to fit in my strats, which all but one have gold lace sensors. I love 90's EC tone, but I'm kind pursuing more flexibility for my guitars since I play 80's and Top 10 covers.

What I'm most concerned about is the sound of the guitar when boost is rolled off. Does it come out clean or does it begin to breakup? I've only played one EC in Guitar Center, cant remeber wheter I liked it or not :p

Please share pros and cons, they are all welcome.

peace

Buy the boost kit, mount it in a box instead of your guitar. Add a bypass footswitch if you wish. That way you can use it with all your guitars when you want, and still have your stock sounds when you don't want the boost.

Or you can buy one pre-made: http://www.caraguitars.com/claptone.htm

The EC boost doesn't distort even at full boost. It just hits the front end of your amp harder, which can push your amp into distortion. Even with the midboost knob turned down all the way, the signal has a slight increase in output (a clean flat boost of all frequencies), but by turning down the volume knob you can get stock output levels.

Thanks for the reply, also, how does the boost behave before pedals? I use the basic wah, distortions and couple of modulations. The idea of having it in a box is a nice one

cheers
