I just bought an American strat with serial E8031xx and it has a white push button between the two tone knobs. It appears to be a factory original option - not an aftermarket installation.

What is the right name for this button and where can I learn more about it?

The sellers description was that it was a "mid-tone boost" - but searching on that I come up with photos of a switch (not a button) and with a circuit board and 9 volt battery. As far as I can see (only having removed the rear cover, not the pick guard) my guitar doesn't have any hidden batteries inside.

Thanks for this excellent resource and kudos to those who made the guitar originally. I'm lovin' it!!!

That looks like the push-button selector used on the MIM Deluxe Players Strat that allows for two additional pickup combinations (bridge + neck or all three pickups simultaneously).

You're right, it was inaccurately listed as a mid-tone boost - though it sounds like that's what it does. The old, little-played body apparently got married to some more modern electronics.

Oh it is nice to know everything is so interchangeable on these beasts - if you know what you are doing anyway.

Thanks!

The Strat is akin to a '69 Camaro......you can pretty much hotrod it any way you want.
