So I just received my new costume shop tele from a small workshop building all my costumes, she's a gorgeous all handmade beauty and I'm not happy with the pickups I got there (Duncans of some type).
The guitar is book matched ash body (VERY dry) and a maple neck.
What pickups will give me the best and most authentic tele "twang" ?
I'm looking for that specific sound when you hear it, you know it’s a tele.
Thanks.

I've got both the Texas Specials and the 51' Nocaster pickups, both of them are some of the best tele pickups out there, I don't think you can go wrong with either. They both are twangy but they clearly have different sound quality. You get great bass response out of the TS neck pickup and the bridge gets very twangy. How you wire it will have some influence on the twang as well (tone caps, etc), I might give the edge to the TS only because it is shipped with a ground wire from the neck pickup, which allows you to use the 4-way wiring, which is the best tele mod out there. But again, you can shell out the $100 for either and I think you would be happy.
