I'm building a neck and will be installing Fender Schaller locking tuners that I purchased from Musician's Friend. They don't give a model number (like M6 2000) or provide any drawings that show drill hole diameter or spacing.

Any idea where to go to find this information?

Thanks,
Julie

You could measure the tuners. You could also test various spacings using scrap lumber.
What plans are you using for the neck?

The drawings are from a '62 Strat. I just didn't know if the spacings and hole dimensions on the drawings would work for the Schaller tuners. The tuners are still on order.

I had to do some digging but they are the M6 Locking Machine Head type pin machine heads. I downloaded the drawings from Schaller but they don't show spacings and nothing on their website mentions that or it they can just be installed in a standard Fender neck.

I would definitely try them out on some scrap wood before drilling the neck.

What in the hell is the hurry?

Wait until the tuners arrive, take the measurements directly from them, then drill the holes in the headstock.

I like having the manufacturer's dimensions. Then you KNOW it's being done right.

Good luck with that.

I know what my calipers and my engineer's rule tell me.

Too many times I've seen erroneous data published by manufacturers. And there is but one chance to correctly drill a headstock for tuner holes. Blow it and that neck goes into the permanent recycle bin.

But as I said, "good luck".

Yeah, I'm getting that idea. In my job, drawings and blueprints HAVE to be right but the more I get into guitar building, the more I'm seeing it's a wing-it-and-make-it-work world.
