I just bought a set of 57/62 pickups and measured them. I got 5.9/6.0/5.9 K ohms. That's a decent-sized variation from the 5.6 K they are supposed to be, more than enough to change the tone. Thanks for caring about your quality control Fender. I wasted $100.

Why don't you install them in your guitar and let your ears decide if you wasted a C-note......?

I've got these pickups in a couple of Strats and though they also measured a skosh out-of-spec (to the high side) they seem to sound pretty damn tasty, delivering the prototypical spank and bite that this set is known for.

Is your meter is accurate ? With good contact ? Tone is more than resistance of the coil .

+1 Retroverbial

I installed them and they sound a bit stronger then other sets I've played. They have way more midrange and a very woody tone. And yes, my meter is perfectly calibrated and used enough to know if something was fishy with it.
They by no means sound bad. They sound good, but not the tone I was looking for, especially after hearing these pups in similar guitars.

Same sets !!! Did they have the 5.6 K they have to be ?

Did you try it on same guitar than your set ?

Same set of strings ?

Same set up ( height ) ?

Same amp ?

If no at only one question , tone may be different .

If the output seems too high you might try lowering them all by 0.25mm or so. If the response seems to improve you could drop them down even more until they hit the sonic paradigm you seek.

5% too high?

If that really bugs you, try to return them. You shouldn't have installed them.

Or you can fix them. Get rid of the overwindings. Unwind some until you get the measurement you want. But maybe this is easier said than done depending on the potting.

I've installed countless sets of pups (mostly Strats) over the years, and I'm well aware of the effects of pickup height, string gauge and material, amps, pick material, etc. I can consider these factors when I listen.

I have (or had) other Fender pickups and they are all in pretty close range of what they claim as their output. Every aftermarket pickup I've had has also been pretty spot-on with the claimed measurements... Dimarzio, Rumpelstiltskin, Seymour Duncan, Van Zandt, Bill Lawrence, G & L.

My point is... I don't know any pickup maker that would send you a set of 5.9 or 6.0 K ohm pickups if you asked for a 5.6 set. That amount is enough to make a tonal difference. You can't argue with that.

As well, this does not appear to be an isolated incident. There have been anecdotal reports of other Fender pickup sets being significantly over-wound, specifically the Fat '50s.

I don't think Fender measure the DC resistance of pickups they count the number of wire turns.
The set of 57/62s I bought last summer were 5.9k, 5.9k and 6.0k. I wired them with 3 Fender 250k pots which measured 285-290k.
They sound ok though.
