Hi guys,

I just bought couple weeks ago MiM stratocaster (1994) - 3-color sunburst with maple neck.

Strat still contains stock PU. I would like to change them for Duncan´s SSL-4 in all three positions (middle - reverse polarity for hum canceling).

What do you thing about these PU? Have you tried them?

What about hum, noise? How loud it´s it?

I have in my another strat Lace hot gold - they are pretty silent in case of hum... So I just want to know what can I expect from these..

And what about potentiometers? 250k or 500k?
Thank you

ann I´sorry for my english

Hi Skarty,

I have a 1987 MIJ Strat that I bought used with SSL-4s installed in all 3 positions, and I just love it. It's my best sounding Strat. These pickups are louder than your typical Strat pickups but the hum is about the same in my opinion. The louder output drives my amp a little harder (2012 Blues Deluxe Reissue) and generates a nice bluesy tone. It generates good quack tone in positions 2 and 4 but not as striking or bright as a "normal" output Strat pickup. The bridge pickup is a great performer when more drive or distortion is added. I added a switch that allows me to have both the bridge and neck pickups on at the same time which makes it sound very much like a Les Paul or 335 when cranked up a bit.

This Strat has 250K pots for volume and both tones.

Sandy

Duncan says on site that these PUs are very good with acousticly balanced strats and rosewood necks.

I have strat with poplar body and maple neck... What do yo think? :?:

I don't think it makes any difference what woods your Strat is made of. My MIJ Strat has a basswood body and rosewood neck, but I've also tried the pickups in my '72 Strat with Alder body and maple neck. In my opinion, the pickups sounded the same.

Have you ever checked out the SD Twang Banger, my all time favorite Strat pickup, but not for everybody. A little bit on them here.

Great little pickup for the Bridge, gives some tele twang while retaining that strat quack. I have a APS2 in the bridge/middle. Very versatile setup.
