Location: In a galaxy far, far away.
I am interested in swapping the humbuckers out of my CIC Squier Jagmaster.
The body is alder and the neck is rosewood.
I play classic rock, blues and ska/reggae.
How does one go about choosing different pickups?
I have checked out a few you tube vids of this guitar with different pickups, but who knows what pedals and amps they use to get that tone.
So far, the two that I like are Gibson Burstbuckers and Seymour Duncan Vintage Blues pickups.
With so many other choices available, where does one start?

Start by going to the pickup manufactures web site and see if they have a "choosing your sound" link. They usually have clean and distorted samples. Good youtube examples tell you exactly what they are playing through.

How do you choose new pickups? You have already made a good start, you know what you like and you have done research. Keep doing research until you feel comfortable with a decision. After they are installed, if you don’t like them, take them out, sell them on EBay and try again. The more research you do the better chance you will have of getting it right the first time. If you don’t get it right the first time, don’t worry about it. It is a learning experience. Once you get over being pissed about your mistake, look at what you chose and why you don’t like it and it will help you to not make the same mistake again. Unfortunately with all the variations in materials and construction methods in guitars and pickups there is not any sure fire scientific method, you just have to play it by ear.
