I'm pretty sure the JC Fat 50s will be great too....the guitar should arrive some time next week.

Post your impressions once you've had an opportunity to shake the guitar out a bit -- be sure to include your amp type and control settings.

Just FWIW...

I know nothing about the Cruz pups, but I have had 4 or 5 Abby handwound Custom 60s sets and all of them measured tightly in the 5.7k to 5.8k range

^Agree^

I've run into a number of players on the internet who feel the the Abby handwound Custom 60s are the best set of Strat pickups that Fender makes (or made now that Abby is retired.) I wouldn't pass that set up if I were you. I have one last set of these myself and I'm not letting them go.

I have one set also and as close to the Holy Grail tone that I've found yet.

If this thread had been about me, I would honestly have gone looking for another Strat with Abby handwound Custom 60s. But that's just me. Actually, I would have probably bought the one from the idiot dealer and just removed the mod he installed. But everyone has their own individual priorities, and for me the pickups rule.

Well, it's too late now anyhow. :)
The Strat arrived and I made a demo yesterday.
First impression:
Definitely in the Fat50s vein (I have one set for comparison.) but also different.
They still have enough highs and sparkle, but are a bit less mid scooped than say CS69s or CS60s.
Here's a demo I made yesterday:

Let me know what you think.

Thanks!

Crikey, those things sound great!

A rich sonic tapestry that easily rivals the AY paradigm. Bright, shiny, a robustly detailed set that's worth the price of admission.

Ya done good I think!

Maybe I'll be able to buy a set of the Abbys at some point, although they hardly ever show up on Ebay....I'd just love to hear how these sound in person.

Of course I had to look under the hood of the new guitar, and to add to the confusion of all the CS pickup types I found this:

So although they Spec sheet says JC Fat50 and Cruz mentions in a video that his PUs are not handwound, it looks that these actually were wound by Josefina because they are signed by her, or am I wrong?

I could not see the wire used for these because there is a black ribbon for protection over the wirings, but my guess is Heavy Formvar.
And I also did not want to molest the wiring on the second day already , so I could not take a reading of the PUs.

Maybe these aren John Cruz at all, but the JC stands for Josefina Campos??????

Just a wild guess.

At this point that becomes a distinct possibility.

BTW, the new guitar looks just as gorgeous as it sounds.

Thanks, it's a great guitar. My first CS experience....if there is no reply from the FCS here, I will probably shoot them a mail with the serial and hope the can shed some light on the matter.

What amp were you using to record the demo?

It doesn't get much better than that.
