Hi there, im in the process of having a custom guitar built and am looking at having the LSR nut installed. However, i seem to get conflicting information regarding the string gauges it can take? My luthier mentioned that he measured the gap for the low E string on the LSR and the measurement is 0.49 however on the Fender site it mentions that it takes gauges upto 0.56. He has emailed Fender for a confirmation of whether they are doing slightly wider ones and whether he has an older version. But i thought i would ask here also.
On the fender site it also says
"Kit Includes: LSR Nut, Shims, Mounting Screws and Bezel Adapter (for Retrofitting to Wilkinson® Nut Equipped Guitars) Will Accommodate String Gauges from .8 to .56. Some modification may be required."
Do they mean that modification would be specifically required to fit a 0.56 gauge?
Many thanks and sorry for the confusing ramble!

I can’t answer your question about the string gauge, I have an American deluxe with a LSR nut, but I have never used strings larger than .048. As to the question about the modification, if the neck has a standard nut, you will have route out the nut pocket to accommodate the LSR nut. I would not recommend anyone doing this unless you know what you are doing.

Thanks for the reply-yes thats what i wasnt sure, whether the mention of modification was related to the nut as a whole or the gauge specifically.
I normally play in E and drop D and i currently play 10-48 but i have wanted to try 10-52 and want to make sure that I have versatility if i want to play in lower tunings in the future (for example drop C)
