Hello. I posted this question in the Custom Shop area, and was told that perhaps it might be good to re post in the pickups area:

Has anybody seen Abigail Ybarra inspected pickups with the AY and date right next to each other, to one side of the wires on the bottom of the pickup? Usually, the AY is on the left side of the wires and the date written on the right of the wires. I looked on google images, and did not see any with the initials and date right next to each other on one side of the wires. The reaso I ask is because I was interested in a CS '66 Strat' but when I looked at pics of the pickups, they had this atypical initial/dating format. here's a picture of the pickups in question:

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I've seen many sets of CS69s over the years, but this is the first time I've seen this. Given the Custom Shop definition of "wound by Abby" it wouldn't surprise me if this set was initialed by another member of her crew who perhaps hadn't paid enough attention to this as they should have. That's just a guess though...

From all the pics I've seen, the name or initials are always on the left, date on the right. The ones in your pics are supposedly from '05 and I've seen ones from earlier and later than '05 and they were always this same way, so it's not like she just up and decided to change her way of doing things...if you're paying through the nose for these, I'd approach with much caution.
Even if Fender had a loose definition of AYs, surely there would be plenty of other examples "out there." If there are no other verifiable samples, I'd pass.

Were these supposedly installed at the factory or aftermarket? If aftermarket, surely there should be Custom Shop stickers on them or at least evidence of stickers having been there...

+1 on all counts.

Thanks for the replies. SMark, FenderFan70 (& Retroverbial), you all make excellent points. There should be other examples out there, so something ain't right here. The pickups are (supposedly) original to the guitar (2005 CS '66 Strat' NOS). If it wasn't for the weird initials and date, the pickups would seem to be unremarkable. I've seen CS '66 Strats made between '04 and '08 sporting either AY initialed & dated grey bottom pickups or ones without the initials & dates. The guitar is priced very fair, at the low end of what the used market will bear. It's just that the initial/date format on the pickups is unusual to say the least, so I thought I would ask my fellow Fender enthusiasts what they thought. :D

It does look like someone added a cap & resistor "volume mod" to the volume pot, but other than that, the guitar appears original and is in great shape, with it's case candy, case, and COA. However, in the neck pickup cavity where the NOS stamp should be, there is a CC (closet classic) stamp, with NOS written over it! I posted a question regarding this over in "Lets talk Custom Shop", with some pics: http://forums.fender.com/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=88293 One person responded thus far saying that they had never seen that before. It's looking like I may have to hold out for another less questionable CS '66 Strat. Again, many thanks to those that replied. I really appreciate it.

These are the times when we NEED Mike Eldred to be here.

Likely, it's the "treble bleed" mod. These are usually more bother than they're worth IMO.

Thanks; I meant to say "treble bleed"mod, but had some sort of cognitive lapse whilst drinking & typing. :) I agree with your assertion, although some folks sure seem to dig 'em.
