I just received a 2013 American Standard Strat and immediately noticed the pickups DID NOT have the beveled magnets. They look nothing like Fat 50's, which is what should be on this guitar. Do all Custom Shop Fat 50's have the beveled magnets? Any other way to tell if they are Fat 50's? I noticed the wiring and bobbins look almost identical to a set of Tex Mex pickups I have. The middle pickup wiring is not yellow and black (I have heard the Fat 50's have this) it is red and black. The yellow and black wiring is coming from the bridge pickup and the neck pickup is blue and black wiring. The wiring also is not the nice, "cloth" (don't know the exact word) wiring. On the black bobbins, is the number's "56205, 56206, and 56207" hand-written in white and the bobbins are plastic, not fiber. Don't know if this gives any clues to anyone. Any help from anyone would be much appreciated. I have a bad feeling about this.

I just found out the pickups are the older Fender Alnico V's that came stock with the American Standard prior to 2012.

Does anyone know how these compare to the Fat 50's? I assume they are inferior, but don't know for sure. Thanks to anyone who can give any feedback.

The standard pu's are decent, but no do not compare IMO to the fat 50's. Not sure where you purchased your guitar, but if from a dealer, you may want to inquire with them. If it was a used guitar, or private sale, then you may just have to deal with it. I'm not saying the standard alnico pu's are bad in any way, just not fat 50's.

Note the vintage-style cloth push-back wiring, with the middle pickup color-coded with yellow and black insulation. The latter is a hallmark of the RW/RP configuration.
