Hey, I'm cleaning out my work drawers and have found a collection of Strat pups of various years .. 4, to be exact. How can you tell which pup (if any) is a reverse wound reverse polarity MIDDLE pickup??
Yeah ... I know ... I can hook it up. However; i'm hoping one of you technical guys can save me the time.

Secondly ... one of the four pups (all Fender), has one white wire and one red wire. The bottom of baseplate has the number 016730.
It may have come out of an early '81 Strat I had back then or a gun metal blue Strat I bought in 1986. Both were USA Fenders. Were these considered poopy pickups?

Thanks!

Fender typically wires RP/RW pickups with yellow and black leads.

You can certainly test if it's reverse polarity.

If the tops of the pole pieces are attracted to the top of another pickup's pole pieces then one has North poles at the top and the other has South poles at the top so they're different polarities and therefore likely to be wound in opposite directions too.

As for poopy pickups, the surviving ones in my 88 Gun Metal Blue Strat are excellent but the bridge pickup went microphonic within a few months of me buying it.
