Hi, so last weekend i attended the Java Jazz Fest at Jakarta, and i came across a guitar store and decided to get a new strat. I ended up buying the John Mayer signature series strat which sounds and plays beautifully. When i got back home in Malaysia and plugged it in, the bridge pickup wasn't working, at first you could hear it faintly if you cranked up the volume all the way up on the guitar and the amp. It was working perfectly fine at the guitar store. I've sent it to a local guitar store to get it checked, he tweaked a wire or two and the bridge pickup came back on, but when he closed the guitar up, the bridge pickup just didn't work again. I left it at the shop for a day for him to get a better look at it. And he just called and said that the pickup just wouldn't work. He recommends sending it to the guitar store's technician to rewind the pickups, says thats probably the problem. What do you guys think ? I really don't know much of this technical stuff and i really don't wanna lose them big dipper pups. Can someone please shine some light on this mystery of mine please...

It could be something very simple such as a marginally-soldered wire to the switch or even a defective switch. I'd do some further investigating on my own before resorting to such drastic action as having a pickup (or pickups) re-wound. Especially on a brand-new instrument.

Yea I guess i should do that. I doubt that guy who took a look at my guitar is very good technician anyway, just plugged it in earlier and the smart $@! decided to change the position of my pickup selector without me asking for it. My whole selection is now in reverse, 1st position for my neck instead of my bridge and so on. Anyway, about your suggestion where the switch might be the problem, he said he tried changing the switch to a new one and the bridge pickup still didn't work. I can still hear the bridge pickup, faintly, if you crank up the volume on the amp though, but obviously i can't have it that way. Any other idea what the problem might be ? I can't really find much info on google.

Ps,
Re-wound, my bad haha.

The first thing I would do is to disconnect the bridge pickup from the wiring harness and measure its coil resistance with a DVM. If it shows somewhere in the neighborhood of 6.5K ohms, then your problem lies elsewhere.
