Just bought two brand new Teles that both claimed to contain a set of "Hot" Texas Specials in the dealer's listed specs. One was an FSR (Fender Special Run) Telecaster (MIM) and the other was a FAST (Fender American Standard Telecaster). I loved the pickups in both Teles and would like to buy some more but I cannot find them. Some say the Custom Shop Texas Specials are the same thing but I have serious doubts. Can anybody clear this up? :)

Fender apparently has two different sets of Texas Special pickups.

If they are listed as Custom Shop Texas Specials, that is what they are. If they are listed as Hot Texas Specials, they are not the same as the Custom Shop pickups.

Called Fender today to ask the same question and was told there is no such thing as a "Hot Texas Special." I took a look at the bridge pickup inside the Mexican Tele and found out it was a ceramic magnet altogether, probably of Chinese origin! Then I called the dealer and he told me he contacted the parts guy at Fender and the guy told him those particular Mexican Teles (FSR) were equipped with a CS Texas Special that was manufactured to Fender Custom Shop specs in Mexico. ??? Anyway, the damn thing sounded pretty good! So I'm not too pissed, though I probably should be. Next I'm going to crack the other new Fender American Standard Telecaster and see what's under the hood there. I'm getting some really nice scooped sounding even-numbered harmonics out of the American and I'm guessing they are just regular Fender Texas Specials, but they sound a LOT like the Chinese pup, and that's a compliment. Weird. I'll get back to you.

Then it's a scam and the guitar a fake partscaster!

Genuine Fender guitars and basses are always equipped with genuine Fender parts.

Unfortunately you are victim of a scam.
