Hi
Oh boy my first post here, I dont know what I'm talking about and I just quit smoking. Just a second I'm going to pop some nicorette gum in my mouth. Three months ago I bought my 1st electric guitar a no name strat and ding ding goes the trolly as ding ding goes my pickups. So today I ordered A complete Fender "Original '57/'62" LOADED / PRE WIRED Strat Pickguard after alot of reasearch and some DR Blues pure niclke strings.

All genuine FENDER parts.

Fender ORIGINAL '57/'62 Stratocaster pickup set,, part number 0992117000
Fender 5 way switch, part number 0991367000
Fender Standard Stratocaster pickguard WHITE, part number 0991360000 ***
3x Fender/CTS 250k split-shaft potentiometer, part number 0990830000
Fender Stratocaster knob set WHITE, part number 0991369000
Fender/Switchcraft output jack, part number 0021956049
Wired with vintage-correct Gavitt cloth-covered wire.
Fender/Switchcraft output jack

I read on a review that turnig the bridge pickup half around realy makes it more dynamic or something like that, is that true? and is it worth doing?

Also everyone talks about rewiring stuff switches and pickups is that worth doing will it make a differnts?

Or any other things that I could teak that would get the most out of the pickup set?

I ordered it today and it shipped today I cant wait to get it.

Thanks

Merely over-hyped cyber bullshit.

Fly the mission as briefed!

A mod you might find usable (contingent upon the composition of your guitar's body and fretboard) is to wire the bridge pickup to the bottom tone control. This permits rolling off some "bite" in the event of an overly-bright guitar. A steel base plate added to the bridge pickup will also fatten its tone to varying degrees. I'd recommend the .022ufd tone cap for vintage tones -- a .047ufd for a more modern vibe. Paper-in-oil axials in either case.

Best of luck -- hope it all works out for you.

OK I’ll skip the 180 switch around on the bridge pickup.

I watched a youtube video of a strat without base plates then with base plates on all 3 pickups tested through out the 5 way switch. I liked it with the base plates in so for starts I’ll try all three. I think it gives it a smokier sound.

Checked out capacitors on the tone pots, a couple good youtube video’s on that also. I liked the .022uF value sound the best. Sounded to me that it does fatten up the bottom but still lets the smoke out on the G, B and E string.

I found some capacitors on Ebay for $30..00 then I found some at an online guitar parts store for $8.00 appeared to be the same so I'm just saying. I also found the base plate for $5.00 without the ground wire soldered on. Well that only took about 4 or 5 hours to do. Well I really am learning a lot so I do appreciate that thanks.

So I was looking soldering up the capacitors and they go on the tone pots is that right?

I also watched a video, and found a wiring diagram of a strat one showed the cap soldered to the back of the pot and then to the terminal. The other showed the cap soldered across two of the three terminals. Then the online guitar store was selling matched pairs for each pot
I’m guessing it all depend on how my pickup set is wired up and I won’t know till I get it or is it for more tone control?

Any thoughts on that?

I use the standard Strat wiring set with a single tone cap, assembled in the standard tone-control configuration. Occasionally I'll wire the lower tone control to the bridge pickup by relocating a single wire on the selector switch. Most Strat kits include a .047ufd cap so you may have to shop for a different value separately. The PIO metal-cased .022ufd axials generally run $12 to $20 each and are often of Russian origin. If you install base plates on all three pickups you may find you've taken too much "bite" out of the guitar, especially when using the middle pickup alone or in conjunction with the bridge pickup. Some experimentation may be in order. Of course, a lot of your overall tone will be determined by the type of amp you play and any outboard effects you use.

HTH

Thanks Ok here is what I got, glad the wife’s home just bummed a cigarette from her this shopping is stressful.

3 strat pickup metal base plates
Sprague Orange Drop .022uF @ 100V
220K resistor in parallel with a 471pf capacitor
Russian NOS k409-y 4700pf (.0047uf) 200v Paper in Oil capacitor

I had to get everything from two different places, but I checked out youre recommendation on that Russian cap and it seemed to me to have a lot more sustain but I got the orange drop at the other web site just in case something would hold reassembly up. I found a volume combo resistor and capacitor for the volume pot, don’t know what its about but with shipping and everything I thought I’d get then test it it out later. Have you ever tried one out? I would like to add the base plate one at a time starting at the bridge like you recomended. Can I loosen the strings and lift the pick guard out or do the strings need to come off? Or maybe use my old strings. What so you think?

Thanks

For such major upgrades, it's wise to pull the pickguard completely off of the guitar. That resistor-and-cap set sounds like a treble-bleed circuit. Some like them, some do not. I'm in the latter category.

Yeah treble bleed circuit

When I got home last night the pickups where setting on the front steps so I tore into the install. After minor routing job the area where the bottom tone pot fits into, my original pots are the diameter of a dime my new fender pots a lot bigger American engineering yep bigger is better. Got it back together plugged it into the amp turned it on, but they just did’nt have the quack I expected.

I don’t have my pure nickel strings on, I still have the original strings that came with the guitar they look nickel but stick to the magnets. I ordered a bunch of stuff but I haven’t got it so its as it was. Looks like a standard fender 5 way wiring set up there was a 200 ??? cap on the middle pot soldered to the back. “couldn’t see to read the damn fine print on the cap” I’ll have to buy me a magnifying glass like my ma’ got”. All cloth waxed wireing all fender pots and switch.

It does have some quack and its not real chimmey either.

Solid Alder body rosewood neck at least fair resonates. I guess if I strum it the body vibrates for 45 seconds or more. Mustang 1 amp 3 months old seems to work great but it is a $107.00 amp It is the best small amp out there I’m not slammin it at all the fuse software and the effect education on tone modulation with compressor, stomp boxes whaa’s, and vibrators is at least worth that. But I’m wondering how much quack do I get out of my amp. I searched the Mustang forum, there were no hits on the search subject.

Does anyone know if its because its not in a tube amp or somethings not right in the wiring or anything?

Thanks

Try lowering your pickups a bit.
