Hi,

Just bought a new Fender Deluxe Roadhouse Stratocaster, and as I was peeling off the plastic over the pickguard, I noticed that the (apparently) same type of plastic was also glued over the magnets of the pickups. Am I supposed to remove also this plastic, or should I leave it there? Will I damage the pickups by removing this?

Thanks for any help,
César.

I've never seen them put the self-stick plastic film on pole pieces. Most likely you're seeing the thin layer of wax left over when they pot the pickups.

Whether it's wax or plastic, you won't damage anything by scraping/peeling it off (string/pick wear will eventually remove most of it anyway). But it also wouldn't hurt anything to just leave it on -- it doesn't affect the tone or anything like that.

Thanks for the tip. Later I'll take a closer look to see weather it's plastic or wax.

strayedstrater is absolutely right , it's not plastic cover. Not sure it's wax, but something similar (scilicone gel, maybe?!). I scraped it off with my fingernail and now the magnets are shiny. The sound is the same. Thanks for the help.

Yes, they always have. In the early days they dipped them in lacquer to pot them, then they switched to wax potting (reissue/vintage-style Fender pups may still use lacquer potting, but they're all potted either with wax or lacquer).
