I find them to work rather well, and don't require drilling out new strap pin holes like some other strap locks do. The locking mechanism unlocks by pulling a pin, unlike Dunlops pushing in a pin/button. I've never had issues with accidentally pushing the Dunlop release, but have heard a story or 2 about others accidentally releasing the Dunlops. Its harder (for me at least) to accidentally pull a pin when compared to pushing one. Also, Schallers straplock design would still allow your guitar to remain in place even if something happened to the locking mechanism. As far as straplocks go, I prefer, and recommend Schaller/Fender locks over Dunlops, but also highly recommend DiMarzio cliplock straps as well because it usually costs less to get a cliplock strap than to get straplocks and a strap.

Here's a link (scroll down the page about halfway) with a diagram to show how they actually work or install:

Less parts and easier to install (at least in my opinon) than Dunlops as seen here:

The Schaller straplocks are the best I've come across! I work as a guitar tech in South Carolina, and I have them on the guitars I perform with as well as it is the first that I recommend to anyone looking for them. We carry Schaller, Dunlop, and a few other less than popular brands. These have a fail safe design to hold the guitar even should the pin happen to fail some how. The weight is distributed to the side of the strap pins instead of the tip of the strap pins. The only problem with these is are extremely popular at the moment and if they aren't instock there is a good chance they are on backorder.

They are very popular, so the chances are if one store is on back order, another store will have lots in stock too.

I hear they are really hard to get off though.

Not hard to get off, because all you do is pull a pin, and besides you don't want straplocks that are easy to get off because then you may run into so accidental unlocking or releasing of the straplocks which can be very catastrophic for you and your guitars....
