Hi folks

I like my American Deluxe Strat but lately I have been finding the N3's a little unexciting/dull.It is a good guitar (very quite, great neck)so I have been thinking that maybe I should think about swapping the pickups. This is my work horse guitar so I do need versitlity. However I have some humbucker guitars for heavier tones if needed.I am in a Band and we play music from just about every decade.Mostly Pop rock a little country. So if possible your recommendations would be appreciated. I play rythm and lead. I have not really considered any other brands as for the most part I have been happy with my previous Fenders and there products that I have had over the years. The feel and the quality of my Strat is awesome for a production guitar so I do want to keep it.

A friend recommended the CS 69's and I have listened to some of the sound clips and they sound good.I do have have pedals to push them all though I do use the bridge pickup alot for rythm and lead so I am wondering if the 69 bridge is to weak?

Greetings,

The 69s bridge pickup is weak and ice picky. You do have a bigger concern though. The 69s are not humbucking nor is the middle pickup RW/RP. They will be a bit noisy vs. the N3s, especially when you start using those pedals and/or switch the pickups into series mode.

As to the Fat 50s, granted, the bridge pickup will have a tad more output and midrange and they have the RW/RP middle pickup but the same noise problems will arise with certain pickup selections/combinations.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

Thanks

Should I consider another choice of pickups? Texas specials? Or a mixture of Dimarzio 58/area 61's or other types. I am wondering if people have different types of Fender pickups in various postions and there experience with this arrangement.

I was looking at the Fender 54's but the reviews are mixed so I have backed off doing more investigating.

Opinions are welcomed :)

You're quite welcome.

Forget the Texas Specials and yes, you'd do best by researching the DiMarzio Virtual Vintage/Area pickups in the combination which would best suit you. Kinmans are also phenomenal pickups but he is essentially pricing himself out of the market.

What exactly is wrong with the Texas Specials?

Nothing. Yet they are limited in comparison to other brands/models out there and per the OP's requirements, he needs the additional versatility Texas Specials do not afford.
