Good evening, I was wondering how should I clean my Stratocaster's pickups, they got dirty, can I use WD-40 or something similar? What would be best? And also, could someone please tell me if there's any problem using electronics near the pickups? I like sometimes putting my cellphone near them when I have a bunch of effects on, but I wonder if this damages the pickups in any way. Thanks!

What are they dirty from?

No, do not spray ANYTHING on them. Use a dry cloth to wipe them down.

A cellphone will not damage pickups although I can't for the life of me understand why you would want to put a cellphone near the pickups.

Thanks for the reply! Well, for 2 reasons: https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... .toneprint and because if you leave a ring modulator, fuzz and possibly a pog or phaser with some other pitch shifter it makes wild sounds, perfect for you to leave the guitar and focus on the pedals. I do this for fun, although ive been thinking about using it in one song

and I'm kind of embarassed to say this, but Ive been for some months without playing and during a heavy session I broke my pick and cut my finger, splashing some blood on the pickups. This is a very newbie thing, but did happen, and I dont think a dry cloth will do the trick

Then try a spray guitar polish to clean them. Spray it lightly on the cloth, not directly on the pickups.

Great, thanks again! One last question, could I instead moinsten the cloth with water and wipe the pick ups dry right afterwards? Would this do any real damage to them?

I don't recommend it. But it is up to you. I take no responsibility for any damage you might cause.

One thing I noted just now, some pickups seem to be rusting, with some dark spots coming up, should I use the cloth with guitar polish or just let it be?

If you need to remove the rust - find an rubber ink eraser. It has a slight bit of abrasive in it. Rust pits the surface so you may not be able to get it all off. I have used paste wax sparingly to help keep the moisture away from the metal surface. Applied a small amount with a q-tip then just lightly remove any excess, no need to polish it.
