One guy on Youtube said he meters his 500k pots to see which reads higher out of the batch and then sets that one aside to use for the neck volume. Im guessing cause neck pups a darker and can be brightened up a tad with that pot.

I decided to get out the multi meter and check the CTS pots I have in my parts bin. I got a wide range of readings and am now curious how much of a discernable affect is made by these variations?  And when I install them in the future should I appoint the higher reading pots in what Volume or Tone positions?  I got a Telecaster and Les Paul project on the horizon.

Of my six 500k Pots i measured:
433k, 439k, 440k, 470k, 482k, 493k

Of my six 250k pots I got:
235k, 258k, 259k, 263k, 265k, 269k

In theory you are correct, put the higher valued pots for a brighter sound, but in reality I doubt if you will hear the difference between a 433k and 493k pot. If the changes were from 250k to 500k and 1M then it may be a different story.

Typical pot tolerance is +/- 20%. Some better ones are +/- 10%. I don't waste time measuring them unless I suspect there is a problem.
