Dear Friends
Hello, I wonder if I might find some advice on the wiring scheme I want to try on a Tele build that I am doing. What I have is this,Duncan Broadcaster in bridge pos. Fender twisted tele in the middle pos. and a Gibson 57 classic humbucker in the neck. What I want to do is have the pickups "on In the normal Strat positions except I would prefer that the neck and bridge be on in positiion 4 that is the one that would normally be neck and middle.
The hard ware I have is as follows, concentric 250/500k pot for tone as I want to use a std tele control plate and I have both 250 or 500k pot for volume, I have 470 ohm resistor If needed for volume to deal with the single coil humbucker mismatch, treble bleed kit if necessary a variety of caps in various values for tone pots and a dual wafer super switch,Thanks for reading this very long and boring post. Any advice would be most welcome. Thanks,Craig

Craig,

For the pickup selections/combinations in the order you desire, you need a Super Switch. The following diagram shows how to wire the pickups and the concentric tone pot to the switch. In your particular situation, use a 500K ohm volume pot. Not shown in the diagram is where you wire the 470K ohm resistors. For this, simply wire one tail of one resistor to the middle pickup's terminal on the selector switch and do the same with another resistor to the neck pickup's terminals on the switch; solder the other tail of both resistors to ground. DO NOT use a treble bleed kit. It is up to you regarding your choice of caps for the concentric tone pot.

If you have any questions, just yell!

Thanks Martian for the fast reply, your help is as always most welcome,Please help me understand the resistor and if and or how it is wired as I am somewhat unclear. Does it when used with a 500k volume pot change the value that is seen by the pickup ups and does it or can it be done to alter just the single coil pick up load and not the humbucker?cheers Craig

You're welcome and thank you!

With the exception of when the neck pickup is on by itself, the resistors will alter the load from 500K to 250K (apprx.) for all other selections. Don't worry about when the neck pickup is engaged with the middle or bridge pickup though. This places the two pickups in parallel and therefore, the circuit 'seeing' a 250K (apprx.) pot at this point remains appropriate.
