Hi posted this on TDPRI but thought someone here might know - what are the recommended Pots for the Fender Super 55 tele pups? I've just installed a neck pickup and the resistance reads ok on my multimeter but the output is very weak and the tone is extremely muddy. It was so bad I pulled it out and put my BL Keystone back in. Only thing I can think is that it needs 500k pots...?

Also a little surprised that the screws provided don't fit through a std telecaster pickguard - had to widen the holes with a drill.

Welcome.

A 500K (vs. a 250K) pot will expand the frequency range of a pickup but it won't do anything for its overall output. Admittedly, I don't have a whole lot of experience with Fender Super 55s, per se. However, if they are like the majority of Fender's HBs in a single coil slot offerings, your pickup may very well be functioning as designed.

As to the pickguard holes, evidently, that too is an outright design flaw on Fender's part.
