Guitar>ns2 input
Ns-2 output>boss sd1 overdrive input
Boss sd1 overdrive output>amp

I got it working that way but is it correct?

I just want to use those two pedals but I'm still getting some noise.

Or should the guitar go into the sd1 overdrive and make the ns2 go to the amp?

Have you tried reading the owner's manual that came with the pedal?

Well, you can either do it the way the owner's manual shows how to do it or the way "other people" do it. I know which way I would do it.

That's what Boss recommends.

I patched my Boss NS-2 wrong for years (D'oh!). Ran across a diagram online that cleared up the confusion.. not sure why I didn't consult the manual . For me it works great just like the Boss manual recommends:

Guitar into INPUT.

SEND into overdrive, compression or other pedals (EXCEPT time-based pedals like chorus, delay, tremolo, etc... those work best in your amps effects loop, if you have one.)

RETURN from overdrive, compression or other pedals

OUTPUT to amplifier

The Boss NS-2 has a noise gate on the input side. The send & return is a separate noise reduction loop, and it greatly reduces the additional noise generated by an overdrive pedal & single coils. I get a nice pure tone with minimum noise. I SHOULD put my wah in the loop as well, but I don't have room for it on my board. Hmmm.. I'll have to get some extra patch cables and try that.
