Looking at maybe buying a Les Paul
with some minis. I am not a fan of
humbuckers way too much bass and
real muddy sound to me , my question
is how different are minis I hear that
they are a lot brighter/ chimier than
regular humbuckers ? anyone have
experience with them how do they
sound in comparison to single coils?

I owned a Les Paul Deluxe for a time back in the early '70s and the reports are correct -- it was much brighter than an equivalent maple-capped Les Paul with full-sized 'buckers. I tired of the tone after several months and eventually had it retro-fitted with full-size T-top humbuckers. The mini's worked for a lot of songs, but really lacked the low-end grunt that most of us back then were seeking.

This may be exactly what I am looking
for the band I play in is very bass heavy
and as the lead I need to cut through
I had an SG WITH BUCKERS = MUD
A LES PAUL WITH P90S = BASS HEAVY
So if they have brightness closer to
say a SC it maybe perfect

+1

I think you'll find that you can get some "Firebird-ish" tones a la Johnny Winter as well, depending upon the type of amp you play.

Rawk on!
