I removed my pick guard from my '92 Am Stnd Strat to see if I could change the pickups myself. The mid/bridge tone has two pots stacked. I can't find any reference to that in the Fender Stratocaster Handbook. Why is it like that? Should I replace the stacked pots for just one? Any help would be appreciated.

That'll be the TBX tone control, fitted to pretty much all non-reissue US Strats of the time - you should feel a slight click somewhere around 5 when turning the knob.

Pretty nifty, certainly worth keeping.

Thanks for the answer. I thought the TBX was only in the EC Signature Strat. I'm looking to swap the stock Am Stnd pickups with either the SD Lil 59s or the Dimarzio Pro Track. Haven't decided yet. Thanks again.
