Hi all

Just recently got a 2nd-hand USA Standard Stratocaster 2007 (In the UK) and took off pickguard to check all is well under the hood and discovered that some kind of active preamp/eq has been installed. Here's a link to some photos of it......

There's no manufacturer name or serial on it other than the electronic component serials. Does anyone recognise what it is from the pics? I'll probably take it out as I want stock sound but just wondered if it's anything good??

Thanks
Andy

Howdy & Welcome!

That looks like a Cornell Mid-boost to me. I'm sure I've read somewhere that Denis Cornell had a hand in designing Fenders first attempts at an on-board pre-amp.

Any-hoo, check the link below for more info..

Hope this helps.

Had one of the Cornell mid boosts on one of my old Strats a few years ago. Very nifty bit of kit, definitely worth keeping in there.

Your Welcome!

I must keep an eye out for a Cornell Boost. Sadly they don't crop up too often.

Enjoy your strat!

Cheers!

Andy

Fender's first active on-board preamp was developed by Paul Gagon. Denis Cornell designed the circuit with James Demeter and John Carruthers.

Jim went later with his own mid-boost preamp called "Fat Control", which can be found on several boutique guitars from manufacturers like James Tyler, Gerard Melancon, Tom Anderson and John Suhr.
