Split coil, similar in design I reckon like the Fralin split blades?

Whether they are good, bad or 'eh', evidently, no one wants to spend that kind of money to be the first to find out, especially when DiMarzio's Virtual Vintage series are comparably priced and are well known to be outstanding.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

+1

It seems that Fender produces a number of pickup sets that are not available in a regular production guitar, which makes any test-drive a virtually impossibility. These pickups seem to feature a three-wire output which may allow compatibility with the S-1 switching system, an intriguing possibility (assuming the pickups themselves are worthy of purchase). I doubt that I would replace my DiMarzio's though......

Well, I've seen some for a lot less $ in classifieds...

I just put a set in my Jazz Bass. They sound great individually, but the combined sound is out-of phase, and not in a good way. I'm still messing with the wiring to see if I can get them to sound like they should.

I installed a set of these in my Thinline Tele last month. They sound terrific. But there is a design flaw. After about a month the connector on the bottom of the pickup that connects to the wiring harness fell off. The guitar was not dropped or abused. I maybe played it for 30 hours since I installed the pickups. I'm very disappointed.

I put a set in my Strat and they are really not very good, the guitar now sounds very dull, it's almost like I'm playing through a compressor that's been wound up too high. Very disappointed considering the cost. All I can say from a positive point of view is that they are hum free! I contacted Fender customer support but didn't get a reply so my overall Fender experience currently not a good one :( :( :(

Surely all of you guys got defective pickups!

I'm pretty certain there are also other customers who bought Super 55s and had not encountered those nasty issues like yours...

A common complaint I've heard is that when bending past the G pole to the D string pole, the signal drops noticeably due to the fact that the string is leaving one coil for the other.
