dear members,

I have a fender 57 reissue strat copy. I recently replace my old pickups (non fender) for the new fender vintage noiseless ones. At the same time, I had the clapton mid boost installed. Both of these modifications were done by a professional tech who lives in Florida. I have not been satisfied with the clapton mid boost as it makes my guitar sound very muffled on the neck position, and I also don't get the best high's on my bridge. In hind sight, I wish that I would of just installed the new pick ups with out the Clapton mid boost. Because, I don't live in the states and don't have access to a good tech where I live, I have no choice other than to remove the mid boost myself and wire the guitar correctly with the noiseless vintage pick ups

Because I have never done this before, I would like to get some input on how difficult that this may be? or is it something a complete novice can do with the help of a installation diagram. If so, I am hoping that I can get an up to date diagram to guide me threw the process? Do you know where I can get this?

I also, belief that the pods that are on the guitar now are not the pods that came with the vintage pick ups. I am sure that the pods that are on the guitar now are the pods that came with the clapton TBX mid boost.

Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Greg

Welcome Greg.

For coaxing the best out of the Vintage Noiseless pickups, you are going to have to replace the volume pot and the boost pot with 250K (audio taper) pots. The TBX pot can stay if you want but to get it back to '57 RI wiring, the TBX should also be replaced with a 250K (audio taper) pot. Personally, I would replace the TBX also.

As to how difficult it will be to rewire, if you've never done it before, I recommend learning and practicing your soldering skills on scrap materiel over an extended period of time before attempting to do this yourself. If you are in a hurry, your best bet is to get with someone who is good at soldering.

Here is the diagram for your 57 RI. The only thing not covered in the diagram is the color coding of your Vintage Noiseless pickups which I'll explain: The green and black wires of each pickup are the negative (-) with the brighter colored wire coming from each pickup being the positive (+). Here's the diagram:

Good luck!
