OK, well you've chosen a pickup set which is somewhat mismatched. Meaning, the critical issue here is the resistance value of the volume pot. See, the two Area pickups would do best with a 250K volume pot whereas the TZ would do better, especially with the other two in terms of clarity, with a 500K pot. The resistance value of the tone pots can be either as the chief difference would be the taper of the pot in terms of how it bleeds off the treble as you back it down to zero. Use a .047uf or .050uf cap as these are universally the most accepted and acceptable values for Strats.

Use a 500K volume tone pot. This will satisfy the TZ. Now, when it comes to wiring each Area to their respective terminal on the pickup selector switch, also wire with each pickup's hot wire, a 470K resistor with the other tail of the resistor soldered to ground (you can use the frame of the switch). What the respective resistors do is to make either of the Areas when selected respond as if they were going through a 250K pot.

For the brand of pot, CTS; for the capacitor, an "Orange Drop". Both will serve you well without you having to spend 'megabucks'. For the resistors, they usually come, two for 99 cents for the non-polarized ones at Radio Shack (which is what you want). Lastly, ensure that your output jack is a Switchcraft.

Good luck!

This is a completely different story then. DiMarzio designed the Tone Zone S under the premise that chances are overwhelming, 250K pots will continue to be used. So in this particular situation, 250K pots are fine unless he wants to alter the frequency response of the TZS with a pot of higher resistance.
