Hey Ya'll,
I'm looking to upgrade my stock MIM pu's. I love the chimey bell like quality from my USA Tele, and My '79 Strat. I was thinking CS 69's or Tex-TexMex, the stock pu's seem to break up/distort too easily. I would like the classic clean tone and do not mind the 60 cycle hum. Also I wish to stick with Fender pu's.

Lemme Know,
TD

There's quite a bit of swing between the sonic parameters of the CS 69's and the Tex-Mex set. I find the CS 69's to do "cleans" extremely well (I have a set in my Strat 12-string) while the T-M's are substantially "grittier". A good compromise between both of these sets might prove to be the CS 54's. Or, if you prefer a skosh more "beef" in the mids, the Fat 50's.

Martian will be along presently -- he'll have additional recommendations too (and well worth considering).

You rang?

Actually, if you want to stick with the Fender brand, what I consider the best, "bread and butter" single coil Strat pickup of them all is the 57/62. They have a touch of everything and not too much of anything. Yes, they can be bought as a set of 3.

FYI: This particular pickup was reverse engineered by Fender from a real 1963 Strat pickup.

+1

Nothing at all wrong with the 57/62 set either -- I regard them as the prototypical voice of the Strat (I have a couple of Strats with them).

So I Guess Tex-Mex are not suited for pure cleans, but for more overdriven tone.
Thanx for the Info!

Why don't you consider the idea of upgrading with a set of "seymour duncan yjm fury stk-s10"?, those pu's make the strat talk. :D
