hey guys, im looking for the vintage set, the ones from the begining to 1996.
i heard they are way better than the ones out now(reissues) anyone know where i can buy them?ive been looking all over the net but have found nothing.

i almost got some off craiglist but the guy sold it to someone else a split second before i paid.

im looking for the combination of blue silver red.

if you're curious my situtation is this

i bought a 1990 7up green 57 reiusse eric clapton strat that has 3 gold lace sensors in it.........im want to switch to blue silver red bad becuase thats what billy corgan used (smashing pumpkins) im a big fan. love to play pumpkins. my siamese dream setup will be complete almost with the BSR combo, just need a op amp big muff then im set. i already have a 1984 jcm 800 combo and its pretty cool, billy always rocked the the last pick up swtich---red lace sensor i heard thorugh the fuzz boxes, i guess its kind of obvious. anyone know where i can still find them??? ebay takes forever to find anything!!!!

I'd say you're stuck with E-Bay.

Howdy!

I don't think there is such a thing as "Vintage" Lace Sensors. The only change in manufacture since the company started was to improve the threaded hole for the pickup height adjustment screws.

The old style threaded holes (seen below) were prone to stripping....

And were replaced with a more durable design ...

Bar the above they still make Sensors the way they always have.

And don't be fooled into thinking the pre 1996 Sensors that were exclusively used by Fender for the Plus Series were any different than the Sensors made today....

The only difference there is the name printed on the pickup.

Hope this helps.

Andy

I have Strats with with Lace Sensors of all ages, from the early plain top two wire ones through to a '97 Clapton 'Blackie' and even some brand new ones I got for a project. Having done exactly the same search myself I really cannot tell any difference in tone, it seems to be just cosmetic and practical design changes.
