Well then, and speaking for myself, I'm convinced you have a set of Texas Specials in there with the right resistance value pots to make them as, "raw, bold, brash, sweet" as they are going to get in your particular guitar.

+1

Your pickups have the right colored dots in the appropriate locations, the lead-in wires are correct for a RW/RP middle pickup, and the coils all ohm out very close to TS specs.

Rawk on!

The only problem is that based on this post, the OP appears to have replaced the "alleged" Texas Specials with a set of Texas Specials:

"Bill, they sounded great, but nothing like the TS. I also had new pots a new switch and a fat resister and now modded it to be able to blend pickups.. Texas Specials rock!! The others have a great sound more refined, the Specials are raw ,bold, brash, sweet, I guess I'll put them on Cragis List. Thanks for your help, Mark"

Oh, well.

Yeah, I'd be real happy if my tech convinced me to replace a set of Texas Specials with another set of Texas Specials plus more. The OP's tech must be laughing all the way to the bank.

Point well taken unless we overlooked the contribution of that "fat resister (sp)" making all the difference.

I'm not sure what an overweight resistor contributes to the sound.

HI gang, just a little history needs to be told. I'm a long time forum member from Maui ,Hawaii. As you may or may not know it's a small Island not much in the way of guitar shops. We have a few. I moved to Portland Oregon to be involved in my mothers care. All of this not have an impact on the story pre say. I bought the strat at a Big Box guitar shop. It's a lovely one piece body MIN with a rosewood fret board, with a tort pick gard. As a forum reader I have read about all the mods that can be done. The simplest being replacing pickups. This strat was not that much ( custom shop) different sounding then my 2 other strats. So i wanted to do some stuff to this one. I bought the pick ups from an on line discounter for a super price. Being new to Portland I had to find a guitar guy
I tried the big box shop for a fret job and set up. Which was bad. I took it back and found another guy, by this time the new pick ups had come. I meet with the guy and he explained some of the mods that can be done. Idecidedd to do the blender set up on the vol/tone set up. He replaced all the knobs and wires some where a vintage style. At this point the guitar had never been opened. when he got in to it he called me and told me what was in side the guitar. I told him to go ahead and replace the pickups. He took the whole harness out and replaced the whole guts. He did what I wanted. he also fixed the bad fret job and did a killer set up. The guitar looks the same but is no way the same guitar, sound and playing wise. So here I am in the big city trying to get what I want on my guitar doing the best I can. If i had left the unknown pick ups in, and then don't like them and change them later made onsincee to me, better to put in what you know to be what you want then to have to change at a later point. Just a little back story to let you guys know how and why I made thechoicess that I made. I should be able to sell the other custom shop pickups with all the knobs andswitchh and recoup most of what I spent on the new set up. Hay, I'm living and learning. If i was back home, I have solderingstufff I might of done it my self but to go out and buy all the stuff at once seemed a bit much, as we all buy our tools as we need them not all at one time. So my first choice was to take it to a guitar guy. The biggest mistake was to not ask for ADVICE be for I started on the mod. So short recap from my rambling post, I wanted the pick ups, I bought them on my own, the guitar tech called me and told me what he found,I told him to replace them. He was up front with me and has a outstanding rep here in Portland, his work is by far better the what i had done on it before. He did take time toexplainede all of the mods that we could do. I chose what I wanted done. What If I had left the pick ups in anddidn'tt like that and had to replace them??? I made the bestchoicess I could. I don't feel like he took advantage by him or that he mislead me in anyway..Thanks to Arjay, Martian, Bill. As always I enjoyed the willingness to shareever onessknowledgee, Its why I love theforumm and read it everyday! Aloha from Portland, Mark

If you're happy with the sound and the playability of the instrument and you don't think the costs were excessive then that's all that really matters, Mark.

We all run into issues periodically and we all try to offer help when we can -- that's the dynamic of this forum and why it's such a great asset to us.

Rawk on!
