I have a CS strat with schaller strap locks. The problem is that they are shaving away on the button part. I was wondering if the closet classic treament may have something to do with this. I also have an American deluxe strat which does not have that problem. Anyone else having issues?

I have got the Schaller strap locks on all 4 of my basses(2 Fender P's) and have had no problems to speak off. Are you having this problem with both buttons or just one? Is it bad shaving, ie noticable small shavings? You could slap some new buttons on, that could be a cheap fix. Hopefully some others with Schallers will chime in about their experiences.

Thanks Zod, I do have other guitars with Schaller strap locks which are shiny smooth chrome and have no issues what so ever. I think that the closet classic treatment may have something to do wih it. The treatment is kind of an antiqued tarnish look which instead of being smooth is rough and maybe causing it to rub the wrong way. I'll try some shiny smooth locks.

What kind are you using? The black, gold, chrome, or nickel? Just wondering. I have a set of Schallers on a guitar for nearly 15 years, and there is some noticeable wear on the buttons, but from what I can tell it does not affect their function in any way. So I don't know if its part of the closet finish process, but would say not to worry about it as long as they still function properly.

The nickel ones, After a year of use the head has been shaved off about a 16" of an inch plus, I have to tighten the screw a lot which worries me about a stripping issue. I would like to keep the Strat as OG as possible but I think i'll throw on some smooth chrome ones. I have another guitar which is an American deluxe strat, it also has schallers on there but they are chrome and have no issues. Today's the day to replace the old closet classic schallers.

I think the problem you are having is different than the problem I thought you were having...but I hope you are able to fix it...

personally, i've never really liked Schaller's construction on their strap locks, so i use Zeppelin strap locks. Small, easy, and compact, without the awkward part that sticks out.

and about the stripping issue, whenever i switch out the strap locks, i use 1 3/4" screws to dig deep enough into the body where they don't eventually break the wood around it. It ends up being considerably stronger and i never have any strap problems with my guitars after that.

also, usually the screws for the strap locks end up coming a bit loose, so just put some teflon tape in the cracks and everything's nice and cozy.
