Do you think this will affect tone? These are brand new Fat 50's pickups. Noticed this after the install. (Hint:check out pole piece) Fender QC strikes again! They're really starting to pi$$ me off.

The bevel does seem to be a bit "irregular".

As for its affect on tone, that's hard to gauge.

How does the guitar currently sound?

I really like the pickups. They sound good in this Strat. Fat tone for sure, with notes having the Hendrix thing going. I have a set of 57/62's if it bugs me too much, although I'll lose fatness and have a vintage sounding instrument. The Fat 50's easily sound better than the stock American Standard pickups. Both sets I have are a bit hotter than advertised.
Fat 50's: neck=6.3k, middle(rw/rp)=6.7k, and bridge=6.5k
57/62's: neck=5.84k, middle=5.89k, bridge=5.90k

I love the Fat '50s in my ash hardtail. When I built the guitar I'd intended to give the Fralin VH's a try but I found a great Ebay deal for the Fender's -- $119 for the set plus free S&H. It was too good to pass up.

That's a good deal. MF had them for $134.

$134 is reasonable. I bought mine two or three years ago.

Technically, the magnetic field is affected. In this particular situation, this polepiece MAY pick up the string a HAIR weaker due to less mass up near the string in comparison to the others but not anything which one's ear could really discern. As to changes in tonality, it is highly doubtful as the rest of this magnet is the same as the other five in terms of form, alloy and charge through the coil. I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks Martian. I believed the magnetic field could be affected, yet my perceived thinness is
probably psychological.

Glad to help. Consider too, it is a bridge pickup and so, it will intrinsically sound the thinnest. Like I said, I wouldn't worry about it. Rather, enjoy the set.
