Looking for some expert amplifier advice.

Currently own a 2008 Hot Rod Deluxe and a 1971 Silverface Deluxe Reverb, the latter owned since 71.

Had purchased the HR as a backup amp and recently been using it at gigs. Am not pleased w/ the tones I'm getting out it. It is "LOUD" and clear but it is missing something which is very hard to describe.....kind of an emptiness.

My dilema is: should I sell this amp and replace it with a 65 deluxe reissue or somehow figure out how to get the bugs out of it. Don't want to sink a load of cash into the HR and still be dissapointed. (Had bias increased...verdict is out on whether it helped or not) Favour the normal channel as the gain channel is dissapointing. (Harsh to the ears)

Ebay listings and C/L pages are chock full of people unloading these amps after dumping untold amounts off $$$ into them in a valiant-but-vain attempt to improve the tone. I myself was one of those people......

Cut your losses and walk away -- you're better off with a second Deluxe Reverb.

Thanks,

Really did appreciate your response. The H/R has been driving me crazy, can never get the tones I seek from the thing....and it doesn't seem to get better as it heats up. Until you own one and really use it you don't know...this amp really leaves an empty feeling when the playing is done. I'm hoping the 65 reissues measure up to my old 71 as I'm bummed out with the H/R. Lesson learned.....

I have an original '67 silverface Deluxe Reverb and a '93 DRRI. They both sound mighty sweet in their own individual ways. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
