I just picked up a partscaster. It's an ash body with butterscotch finish. The it has two alnico pickups in the neck and middle and a ceramic pickup in the bridge. All on the same Fender bobbins with black and white plastic coated leads. It's set up with master volume, master tone, and bridge pickup switch. Does anyone know it this was ever a stock setup? Specifically the mix of anico and ceramic pickups in the same guitar.

Thanks, David

Welcome.

In a direct answer to your question, no, that is not a stock setup. Apparently, whomever you got the guitar from had a different pickup in the bridge position and still wanted it, thus removing it and substituting it with the one you have in there now.

Thanks Martian, I didn't think it was, but I thought it could possibly have been an idea to have the extra cut in the bridge position. What's the best way to determine what alnico pickups might be?

You're welcome.

Well, with the plastic bobbins, they might be Am Stds, Tex Mexs or a few others. Overwhelmingly, they'll have Alnico V magnets. It is the resistance of the coils which oftentimes give a clue as to what specific model guitar they were OEM in/for. Essentially, they are all the same any way where it is the number of winds of the coil which determines the differences in tonalities hence models. FWIW, none will go on to be a collectable down the road.
