Hi, I fitted the complete Clapton setup (Vintage Noiseless PuPs, TBX, boost etc.) to my 1990 MIM standard, and even had the correct routing done to the body. It sounds great through my Roland Cube 60 (but this has a built in noise gate), but hums really badly through my Laney VC15 valve combo. The only thing I haven't done is re-shield the control cavities. I wonder if the circuit reacts with the pickups, the proper Clapton Strat looks like it is heavily shielded with shielding paint. I will try to shield the cavities to see if this makes it better and post another entry. Does anyone else have any better ideas?

Amazing how all of the armchair experts don't want to help their fellow enthusiasts!
Anyway, I stripped down my Strat and all of the wiring looked good, but I wasn't sure about the switch so I changed it for a real good quality one and while it was all apart I gave the pickup, circuit and control cavities three thick coats of a carbon based shielding paint. When it was dry I made sure a ground wire was directly attached into the shielding paint in the control space and put it all back together......WOW..., silent as the night and even better tone. If you aren't afraid of stripping it all down again I really recommend doing this, for me personally it solved the problem totally, let me know, LOL & respect, Richard

Dude, forgot to mention, make sure you put insulating foam etc between circuit board and cavity or major short circuit!!!

I have heard that the clapton boost amplifies the tone as well as the hum, that's why the boost come with laces or noiseless pickups. I suggest you shield the guitar properly, or get a full lace set. Might help...

I have just finished putting the Clapton boost circuit and a set of Jeff Beck noiseless into a three year old Highway one.

This entailed a fair amount of routing of the body which I did by hand.

I used three thick coats of the shielding pain and I also completely covered the back of the scratchplate in very thin copper sheet.

I earthed everything I could to the body cavities and scrathplate.

Result is absolutely stunning sound with NO NOISE at all.

so Ulrike if you have a lot of hum, I would take your guitar to pieces again and check your shielding, earthing and wiring.
