I'm a single coil kind-a guy. Although I do love humbuckers when you start throwing some saturation on them, but as far as playing them clean, you can count me out. To me they sound as if someone has turned the tone nob down just a little (Enough for me to notice that it's not what I want when I'm playing clean).
I purchased a Mexican Strat back in feb 2011, which was a so called special edition. It had a HSS configuration. Of course the PU's were not top quality, but they did their job. But to my surprise the humbucker was crisp as a single coil, and full of body when played clean, and beautifully ruanchy as only a hummer should be when distorted. not bad for a cheap PU.I did swap it out for a Seymour Duncan P-rails PU, but I'm keeping that humbucker. I think it may have a bright future on my work bench... Peace.
