The Burst Bucker is a great pickup but string-spacing issues will make the installation difficult. IIRC, the DiMarzio's are all available with "F-spacing" for use with Fender guitars. The PAF is a very warm, articulate, vintage-sounding pickup. For higher-intensity over-driven grit the SDHB will deliver.

I've never used either of those particular pickups but every DiMarzio I've ever bought has performed precisely to expectations. I should think that the DP223 would be ideal given your desired performance parameters.

Best of luck, HTH

There are also some Seymour-Duncan humbuckers that might be excellent alternatives. Wait until Martian comes around -- he'll have additional comments and information to add.

You rang? :D

Agreed, DiMarzio pickup descriptions are the most accurate and the 36 Anniversary PAF is a great pickup. However, aside from the volume jump with any full sized humbucker in the bridge position vs. the other two, you have to be very careful that said bridge pickup is not out of character with the other two. Case in point: The Areas and the 36A surely have massive vintage tonality to them but the Areas are of extreme Fender tonality whereas the 36A is of extreme Gibson tonality. Granted, this may very well be the best of both worlds but the problem is, the setting of the amp.

Consider any 'regular' Strat and Les Paul. Obviously, one would distinctly set their amp for optimum tonality out of whichever one they were using but surely, one would not set their amp the way one would for a Strat to get the optimum tonality out of a Les Paul and vice-versa. Surely, this would be preposterous. Now if one simply didn't want to be bothered resetting one's amp back and forth between a Strat and a Les Paul, a compromise setting would have to be done where positively, neither guitar would sound its very best. See where I'm going with this? You'd either need very bassy and loud Strat pickups or very trebly and lower output Gibson pickups to pull this off.

My suggestion for your situation is a Duncan Pearly Gates Trembucker as your bridge pickup. NOT the Fender PG Plus, mind you, I'm talking about the 'regular' Pearly Gates. It is a trebly pickup, still of vintage Gibson tonality and of moderate output so it will blend right in with the Areas, not overpowering them either.

One footnote: If you do choose the PG, it is out of phase with the Areas so with the PG, the black wire is your ground and the green wire is your hot.
