I have a customer who wants to replace the stock pups in his James Burton Artist series tele. Pic and specs of actual axe are here:

http://www.fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0108602887

Looks like the pup cavities are not typical strat or tele type routing, so I'm wondering if typical strat/tele pups (like... Tex Spec's or Mex, etc...) will mount... The customer does NOT want to modify the body in ANY way.

Looks like the stock pups are Lace Sensors. ?

Does anyone have any recommendations for a pickup upgrade for this axe?

I will welcome all replies, but I really need to hear from those who HAVE this guitar, or have worked on it, and HAVE ALREADY replaced the stock pickups with something else.

Thanks.

Welcome.

Probably the most seasoned here among us have never worked on that exact model. However, there is nothing mystical or magical about it or how the pickups are mounted. They are merely 3 Strat sized pickups direct mounted to the wood.

As to which pickup set would sound the best, your question is too vague in the sense that you haven't disclosed what the customer's stylings are. Even if you did though, you'll get many, many diverse suggestions on what works for the individual poster.
