HI Guys

I have an NOS56 Strat which has it's original Custom Shop Pickups in it.

The tone is great but I can't help wondering what a set of Fat 50's would sound like in the guitar.

I only play clean,no overdrive or distortion.

Has anyone done this or can anyone advise.

Thanks

Alan

How do they sound compared to the NOS '56 pickups?

You'll find several discussions of the Fat '50s within this section of the forum -- most of the comments (including mine) are favorable. They're my favorite set, in fact.

Hi Arjay

Don't know how they sound yet,I ordered them yesterday.

It's nice to know they are your favourite,I have had many different set's over the years but never tried the Fat 50's.

I have read comments that they are excellent,so everyone can't be wrong.

I will do a search in the forum,It's good to read othet peoples opinions.

Thanks

Alan

Assuming the nos'56 is Alder and Maple...
I think it should continue to sound round provided by Alder.
They are vintage sounding, but a bit more full, not as thin as some.
I installed them in a Swamp Ash Rosewood Strat and find they smooth out this combination.
I wanted a clean, vintage sounding guitar since my other Strat has over wound pups.
I use this gtr for clean sounds 99% of the time.
I have used some overdrive, I enjoy their clean tone more.

+1

My set is installed in an ash-bodied hardtail with maple fretboard and they sound awesome as well. They're superb for vintage clean and yield plenty of quack and spank with some modest overdrive such as a Fulltone OCD. They're a perfect match for a '64 Vibroverb.

Thanks for the replies guys

The Fat 50's are going into a hand made Custom Strat that is being made for me.

AA Birdseye Maple Neck - One piece Alder Body - Gold Hardware finished in Olympic White
with a White Black White scratchplate.

Should look very nice.

Sounds tasty, Alan. Post pics when you have it all assembled.
