Hey guys! I was just wandering if any of you here has any experience buying custom handwound pickups from Klien pickups,Dave Stephens,Riogrande,Dimarzio, or any others. How would you ask the maker to make the pickup/pickups to your liking before actually purchasing them? Is it the DC resistance? or material?Tell them the genre of what type of songs you play or something like that??? And also after using it for a long time, do you have to actually rewound it???(Underwound pickups or Hand wound pickups) Whats the diff?? And also tell me about the sound. Most R&B and blues rock artist uses custom hand wound pickups, I'm interested in buying and making my own too. Please share your feedbacks thanks in advance!!! :)

Chris Klein, David Allen, Lindy Fralin, Van Zandt, Riogrande, Don Mare, I would pick one of those handwinders any day. Never heard about Dave Spephens, I might take a look on those. Dimarzio´s are actually factory run pickups.
I all comes down to what kinda sound you´re after. For R&B I would recommend you Klein´s S-5 or DAllen´s JM60 R&B set, of course, if you can´t afford a Fender Big Dipper set for about $450 bucks.
Handwound pickups are made by hand, aside by Factory run pickups like Fender and Dimarzio. Underwond pickups are the pickups with very low output, like vintage ones on the range from 5-6k, and on the other side the Overwound pickups, ranging from 6-12k.
For an example of Underwound pickups are the Fender CS69, 57/52 Reissue. And for Overwound pickups are the Fender Texas Specials, and Hot Noiseless. All Factory runs not handmade tho.
