I've looked through several pages of recent posts but still have this question. If I am looking for a quiet set of pickups for a Strat, what is the current wisdom on the quietness, quality, and the sound of Lace and Noisless pickups? I know this is very subjective, but I'd still like to hear from folks who've played either or both.

The reason for my question is that I bought a guitar that is apparently a copy of the Fender Custom Shop Jaguar Stratocasters made for Jaguar Cars in 2000 and it has pickups of unknown origin with gold solid covers and I am thinking of trying something else. These sound good to my ear except for the hum they put through my Deluxe 90 DSP, especially on more drive, but I am a total neophite and probably don't yet know a good sound from a bad one.

I just recently put in the Mod Shops SCN pickups in a 93 mim strat. Personally I am pleased with the results. The original pickups had a HUGE hum problem. After dropping the SCNs in there it is now fixed. The tone is great. Good mid-range response and evens out the highs. For me the original p'ups had a shrill on the highs sometimes.

Just keep in mind eventhough the p'ups say "noiseless" that are not truly 100% noiseless. They do correct 95+% of the noise problem I had before. Now when I do rarely get a noise from the p'ups just putting you hand on the string stops it.

Good luck and have fun playing!

I recently bought a squier that has lace sensors installed, and it really has zero hum, it appears only if I put it close to the tv or the pc, the sound´s fine, a whole world of difference from the squier pickups I had on my other guitar, It´s not the sound I look for but it´s a great solution meanwhile, I´m thinking on buying the SCN pickups, I´ve heard they´re awesome

I've used both. Personally, I think there are so many other far superior choices out there. Notwithstanding, if you have pretty much zeroed yourself in on one of the two as you've stated, without hesitation, I'd say go with the Lace Sensors. In either case, this is merely my opinion and as always, YMMV.

Is the guitar properly shielded? That could reduce the noise a little bit more.

I am also a big Lace Sensor fan. I have a set of SCNs as well as a few sets of Hot Gold Lace Sensors. The Hot Gold is my favorite Lace Sensor. It's not a "Hot" pickup, just a much more dynamic pickup than the original Fender Lace Sensor Gold.

Sure...

This is an overdriven blues solo that I did with a set of 6k Hot Gold Lace Sensors...

And here is a clean twang-ish sample I also made using Hot Gold Lace Sensors...

SCN (Samarium Cobalt Noiseless) Strat pups are entirely different from VN (Vintage Noiseless) pups. For some reason many people seem to confuse them. When it comes to Lace Sensors, the Gold Lace Sensors tend to be favoured by guys like Ritchie Blackmore, David Gilmour, & Eric Clapton. For me it boils down to Vintage Noiseless vs Gold Lace Sensor, & VN's win hands down for me everyday of the week.
