We bought my son a Fender Squier for Christmas and promptly installed Fender strap locks on it (the pull button release ones). Well, the ball on one of the locks worked itself loose and came off and now the strap lock is permanently attached and I cannot get the screw to come up high enough to release. Any help would be greatly appreciated on how to get this fixed without sending the guitar into the shop for repairs.

Thanks in advance!

Ron

Never had that happen and I have Schaller strap locks (same as the Fender ones, I believe) on all three of my guitars and bass. How is the ball attached? If the screw is externally threaded, try finding a nut to go over the screw and pull it up. If internally threaded, find a same size screw and do the same.

OK, some people don't actually live on the boards and have a life outside the internet. So please don't be a jerk.

The ball is screwed onto the post which when pulled up, releases the lock from the guitar. Somehow the ball backed off the screw and came off, dropping the post into the locking section attached to the guitar. Once the post dropped, nothing was able to reach in and pull the post up to release it. We tried medical pliers, tweezers, anything to get ahold of one of the threads and pull it up far enough to grab. Nothing could fit into the hole and grab the post.

Anyway, I took the guitar in to our local shop where I bought the locks and they called Fender. The Fender guy told them they had never had that occur with one of theirs before. Usually, they jam, but not come apart. So the only recourse was to either use a hacksaw against the threads to cut all the way through (making sure NOT to cut through the post inside or we'd have to do MAJOR surgery to get it off). Once the thread was cut off, the post was lifted and the lock came off. Fender stood behind their product and replaced the entire set for no cost.

Me, I'm seriously think of going with the Ernie Ball locks for my guitar.

Most people when they ask what appears to be an urgent question, have the courtesy to respond quickly when an answer is provided.

Glad you got it removed. Too bad it had to be destroyed in the process.

In no place did I mention this was urgent. He was able to use the guitar with no problem even with the broken lock. Re-read my original post. So please don't have an attitude over this. Makes you look like a prima donna...

I'm sorry it was destroyed also, but Fender replaced it no questions asked since it was defective.
