 My dilema is that i have two fenders - One is a American Deluxe HSS S/N-DZ0070587 and the other is a Highway One S/N- Z3059358. I love both of them but the Highway One has such a brighter sound and something else (maybe the circuitry) that I just Love? lol i also love the One with the humbucker. Now heres my question? Can I change My pickups to a certain style or wiring or circuitry that will give my fender with the Humbucker more of a sound like the Highway one? Ive seen were you can purchase the whole pickup guards with pickups and circuitry, but I would rather hear from Ya'll about What to do? please help lol If you could tell me how to rewire, change pickups, or anything else. It would Greatly Be Appreciated.

P.S. Ive heard from somebody that the Highway One Has Reversed Wound Coils and Some Kind of Greasbucket Circuitry but i just wanna know how to make my Fatstrat sound like my Highway One

First off, Welcome to the forum.

Those guitars were made to sound different, that's why they have different pickups and wiring. If you want to have 2 guitars that sound the same why not just buy 2 of the same guitar?

I bought the one with the hummbucker first and loved it then a bought the highway one from a stranger and i cant quit playin it lol if i could just change the pickups or the circuitry i would save a few hundred dollars. Ive already upgraded the highway one with locking tuners and a floating bridge. I could just buy another highway one but i like to do most of the work myself, i have several guitars and to buy a new one would cause my wife to kick my dik off lol

There's precious little stopping you from replacing the pickguard on your fat strat. You can get the same pups as the H1 on there. That will get you 90% of the way there.

Unless I am confused, you have one humbucker guitar that you want to make sound more like your single coil one? How about a coil tap switch, or perhaps a push-pull pot for one of the knobs, that way you can spilt the humbucker into a single coil. Granted it may not sound exactly like the other guitar, but it will be closer, and is probably the least expensive way to change your guitar to sound more like the other if you are familiar with electronics and/or modding your guitar, and will probably keep your wife from re-arranging your anatomy

Plus that way you'll still have the humbucker option for whenever it may be necessary...

Pardon me for asking, but why is does it even matter to have two guitars that sound the same? If you're that awesome of a rockstar playing through such an incredible PA that your backup HB-equipped strat would throw off the sweet and delicate balance your master soundman has crafted, well then, by all means invest in another H1. I think you can afford it.

Otherwise, why? I've played enough gigs (>hot meals) to tell you this much: The house soundman is deaf and totally sucks at his job. If he were any good at all, he'd be working with a touring band at enormodome shows. Or, he'd be working at a recording studio. He's the house soundman because he's too ugly to be a bartender.

Pardon me for asking, but where in the original or follow-up inquiries (with the exception of yours) is there any mention of a PA or a soundman? I'm just trying to figure out how the PA and soundman fit in to the original inquiry regarding pickup modding...

I assume that all dogs get walked and all guitars get gigged. Sorry if that's not the case. Besides, the OP answered it's own question.

Well I hate to burst your assumption bubble, but that is not the case. Not all dogs get walked and not all guitars get gigged, and just because a guitar gets gigged doesn't necessarily mean that there is going to be a PA and/or a soundman either. But then again, not all of us get to play huge gigs with beautiful soundmen like you.

Not all house soundmen suck, the bands they work with do, and the good soundman can only help a band so much if they don't have talent. Then some of them just hate dealing with people who come into their "house" and think that they know how to do everything just because they are the "talent" and the house soundman is just "crew". So instead of getting into arguments with people, they just let the know-it-alls do-it-all and if they end up sounding like crap its the bands own fault for either hiring or being know-it-alls who know nothing at all.

If i'm correct, I remember that when the Highway One guitars came out, they were routed with a certain "greasebucket" tone circuit. It was supposed to "roll off the highs without adding bass", although this is how a regular tone circuit is supposed to work. There's probably some certain differences that Fender doesn't want to go into or describe, but if you research enough, i'm sure you'll find out what exactly it is that gives the Highway One's their own certain sound.

also, another thing i remembered. The guitar was finished with a thin satin nitro finish, which was supposed to make the guitar more "resonant", so that may be another thing worth looking into. Hope that helps.
