i just got a set of these custom 69 pick-ups and i am very excited to hear them for the first time, fenders schematic is very confusing to me, i cant seem to figure where to solder the middle tab on the volume pot????? or does that even get done??? - why is there no ground to the tremelo claw?,can i add one? is there more then one way to wire them,,,,,my 94 strat has 3 single coils with a 5 way and its wired totally different!!!! i find a number of different ways that seem to lead to the same results....anyone know which way they were done back in the day????????? any help would be great, im new here!

Welcome.

There are indeed variations to achieve the same end.

Use this diagram as it is the way Strats were way back when:

http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wi ... s_1v_2t_5w

Note that if your 94 Strat is an import, the pickup selector switch is different than that in the above diagram. If this is the case, I recommend upgrading to the American type toggle.

If there is no ground to your spring claw, there should be. Solder a wire from it to the back of your volume pot.

If you get lost, just yell.

so as it turns out, the duncan schematic i followed does not allow the tone knob to work in the #1 position - it works on all other pickups ...kinda odd

"...On all other pickups"?

You've wired something wrong.

yes, it works fine in all positions except the "bridge" (position #1) - i followed the Semour Duncan schematic to the letter - i was thinking maybe the tone cap is directional? its an orange drop .47 cap if that helps at all.....and i was noticing another strange thing - which tone knob usually controls the bridge/bridge middle/middle positions, the first knob down from the volume or second?,,cause on mine right now its the second..i have been pulling guitars apart for 20 years and never wired a strat in my life, this is actually kind of fun.

Your cap in non-polarized, it will work wired in either direction.

Per the diagram, the tone pot directly below the volume pot should control your neck pickup only and the tone pot below that one should only control the middle pickup. With a vintage Strat type wiring, the bridge pickup has no tone pot.

wow thanks so much for all these replies - yes, that is exactly the way its working right now, i was not aware that the bridge pick up is not supposed to have any tone options on vintage strats - im wondering if there is a way to wire it so i can get a tone option on all pick ups with out changing to much

You're quite welcome and yes, there is: Notice on the diagram that the pickup selector switch has one unused terminal. Solder a wire from that terminal to the terminal right below it. What this does is it now makes the lower tone pot work for both the middle and bridge pickups. Enjoy!

My co 60s is wired with the no tone control, on the bridge
Pickup, I've grown very fond of it especially when I'm
Doing lead with alittle overdrive neck tone rolled down a bit
Then flip the switch to the raw bridge, kinda growls with
Bite
