Fender's Wiring Diagrams for the American Deluxe Tele's do not include a diagram for how to properly wire the SCN pickups to the S-1 switching system. It just shows the green wires being grounded. That can't be right can it? Plus the diagram of the Tele S-1 system they have (one of the American Deluxe diagram links) itself isn't wired like the one I have which was taken from an American Deluxe Tele (not messed with by someone else). Can someone point me to a diagram that actually shows how these SCN pickups are to be wired to the S-1 system? Thanks in advance!

I just installed SCN's in a strat, and, yup, the green wires go to ground. They are connected to (IIRC) shields and are key to the "noiseless" action. The black and white or red or yellow wires are the start and finish of the pickup windings.

I haven't gotten my mitts on a S-1 equipped guitar yet, so I'm not familiar with it's machinations, but I did wire the neck and bridge to a four-way tele switch (I never use the middle pickup, and I wanted some tele-ish options.)
The SCN's work great in series combinations as well as the standard parallel combos.

Hope that helps.

Thanks -- that's what I ended up doing...but what I later found was that I had purchased an S-1 switch that had had a humbucker in the bridge position. So, I rewired the switch to match the Fender diagram (American Deluxe Telecaster 010-1600/02) and then wired the pups as the diagram indicated too. The diagram indicated having the black and green wires for the bridge pup grounded, but it had the green wire for the neck pup going to a terminal on the center pot, so that's where I put it.

I wired everything like the fender diagram (American Deluxe Telecaster 010-1600/02) indicated, but I still have a few issues. I'm still getting fuzz for all positions -- i.e. noiseless positions isn't working. And, with the switch in the middle position with the s-1 button pressed down, I'm not getting anything from the bridge pup.

If you have any thoughts on this, it's much appreciated. Thanks!

I'm not at all familiar with the S-1. I looked at the drawings for American Deluxe strats and teles, and they are confusing as all get out. A little color would go a long way to clearing things up.

I would start simple and see if you can get things to work without humming. Ground all green and black wires from the pickups to the back of the tone pot and connect the "hot" leads to the 3 way switch like a conventional Tele. See if you can get everything working.

Also, it's good practice in audio circuits to run all ground wires to a single point (there's also a technique called buss grounding, but that's a discussion for another day.) Along with the green and black wires from the pickups, you will also want to ground the CCW slug from your volume pot, the tone cap, the bridge wire, and the output jack ground to that one point. In fact, you should solder the black wires from the pickups last, because you will be desoldering those to install the S-1 switch once you've established that the pickups work without noise.

Thanks!! I will give those things a shot and post the results. How bad can I really mess something up beyond the point where I can't repair it? It can't be that bad....as long as I'm not frying things with the soldering iron!, correct?...

Even if you do fry something, throw that something out and get a new one. Most of the parts you're working with are cheap and immanently replaceable, and the only things on a Fender that arent held on by screws or bolts is the finish, the frets and the nut. The Tele is the stock car of guitars. Drive like hell and care naught for the consequences.
